In an interview with the Asian Wall Street Journal, Singapore Trade and Industry Minister George Yeo said that:

“ Government will have to devolve power and economic management to provinces, states and cities if they want to compete effectively in the future. The old industrial world, where people are at the mercy of a monopoly government, no longer applies. Technology and globalization have made talent, capital and knowledge mobile, and governments will have to compete for them.

But, big governments cannot compete efficiently. They will face growing political pressure to devolve power and economic management to the lowest level where good governance decides whether talent flows in or out”.
